About
About Us

DOO Argestes was founded in Montenegro in April 2025 by specialists from Russia and Israel to develop new promising projects and promote existing solutions to decision support in sea transportation industry. The company's flagship product is a web service for optimal routing of cargo ships, designed for voyage planning by logisticians of shipping companies and operative assistance to navigators.
«The ancients noticed four winds in all, corresponding to the four quarters of the world (this is the reason why even Homer mentions no more - a dull-witted system, as it was soon afterwards considered; the following age added eight - this system on the other hand was too subtle and meticulous. Their successors adopted a compromise, adding to the short list four winds from the long one. There are consequently two winds in each of the four quarters of the heaven: Subsolanus blowing from the equinoctial sunrise (E.) and Vulturnus from the winter sunrise (S.E.) - the former designated by the Greeks Apeliotes, the latter Eurus; Auster from the sun at midday (S.) and Afriens from the winter sunset (S.W.) - named in Greek Notus and Libs; Favonius from the equinoctial sunset (W.), Corus from the sunset at the solstice (N.W.) - these the Greeks call Zephyr and Argestes; Septentrio from the North and Aquilo between him and sunrise at the solstice (N.E.) - called in Greek Aparctias and Boreas».
Pliny the Elder, Natural History, 2:119

OUR TEAM

Alex Topaj
Co-founder, Executive directorCo-founder, Executive director
Alex Topaj, an Israeli citizen (repatriated from Russia), graduated from Saint-Petersburg State Polytechnic University with a Mr. Sci. Tech. degree in mechanics, applied mathematics, and control processes. For more than 35 years, Alex worked in environmental simulation at the Agrophysical Research Institute, where he held the position of head of the laboratory of mathematical modeling of agroecosystems until 2019. During that time, he defended Ph.D. thesis in 1995 and Dr. Sci thesis in 2010.
Since 2016 he has changed the focus of interests towards many interdisciplinary R&D and academic projects, applying mathematical modeling in various subject areas, e.g., polar shipping (ice-routing, agent-based simulation of full-scale transportation systems), logistics, supply chain and industrial engineering. In recent years he worked as Deputy Director of Science in a private commercial company Bureau Hyperborea. His activity there is mainly related to simulation (both discrete-event and agent-based) in ocean engineering, maritime logistics, supply chain digitalization and Arctic shipping, as well as IT development.
Due to well-known events he was forced to leave Russia in 2022 and lives now in Montenegro. In 2025, he co-founded the «Argestes» company for the practical implementation of accumulated experience and competencies.
